THE CHALLENGE
Bystronic needed to translate complex sustainability and industrial information
into an accessible visual language for its Sustainability Report.
The project focused on two key narratives:
the Value Chain, presented as an interconnected ecosystem of people, technology and materials, and the laser cutting machine, used to explain Bystronic's contribution to the circular economy.
VALUE CHAIN
Turning a complex industrial ecosystem into a landscape readers can explore.
The value chain brings together suppliers, resources, production, technology, people and customers within a single interconnected landscape. Complex information was reorganised into clear spatial relationships, while paths and recurring visual elements guide the reader naturally from upstream activities through Bystronic's operations to the downstream value chain.
The result is designed for two levels of reading: an immediate understanding of the system, followed by details and connections that emerge through exploration.
DETAILS
A COHERENT VISUAL SYSTEM
The visual language was extended across charts, diagrams and ESG graphics
to create consistency throughout the report.
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Making sustainability visible inside the product itself.
The laser cutting machine becomes a visual map of Bystronic's approach to circularity. Energy efficiency, durability, repairability, recycled materials and other sustainability features are connected directly to the relevant parts of the machine.
Technical information was simplified and reorganised into a visual system that allows a non-specialist reader to understand both the product and the principles behind it.

Existing icons were redesigned into a consistent new system that integrated naturally with the illustration style.
